Connect identity and claims to evidence.
The Next Layer of the Digital Economy
Every transaction depends on trust. Now trust is becoming infrastructure.
Founded by Ian Hamilton — independent research and category development around the future infrastructure of trust.
What Is the Trust Economy?
Behind each one is a judgement: Do we know who we are dealing with — and can we rely on the evidence?
The Trust Economy already exists. What is changing is the infrastructure beneath it.
The Problem
The information exists across registries, banks, lawyers, auditors and regulators. The infrastructure connecting it does not.
Trust Infrastructure
Trust Infrastructure is the connective layer that links identity and claims to authoritative evidence — and lets that evidence move.
Interoperable Trust.
Connect identity and claims to evidence.
Allow verified information to move between authorised relationships.
Identify meaningful changes in ownership, authority, compliance or risk.
Preserve sources, accountability, correction and redress.
Trust should be portable. Not blind.
The Trust Stack
Trust becomes more useful when its individual components operate as part of a connected system.
Portable Trust
A company opens a bank account — it proves identity and ownership. Then an investor arrives. Again. A major customer starts supplier onboarding. Again. An insurer. Again. A marketplace. Again. A regulator. Again. A procurement department. Again.
Verify once. Keep it current. Prove what matters. Share it with permission.
Portable trust does not mean permanent trust. Ownership changes. Licences expire. Credentials are revoked. Risk changes. Reusable does not mean unquestionable.
Why Now?
For most of the digital era, technology made information easier to Access. AI makes information easier to Create.
When information becomes abundant, verifiable trust becomes scarce.
The Agentic Economy
Soon the question will not just be "Is this information real?" — it will be "Is this action authorised?"
Machine-Readable Trust
Trust must become structured. Portable. Permissioned. Machine-readable.
An Entire Economy
Who is the customer and who controls the company?
Is the participant verified and authorised?
Can identity, ownership, claims and risk evidence be established?
Does the business exist and remain in good standing?
Who has authority to instruct, execute and bind?
Can financial information and supporting evidence be relied upon?
Who are the counterparties?
Who supplied this product and what evidence supports its claims?
Is the supplier eligible, compliant and current?
Can organisations interact using verified credentials?
Can disclosures be supported by evidence?
Who authorised the system and what is it permitted to do?
Wherever economic participants need confidence in each other, there is a Trust Economy.
A Different Kind of Infrastructure
Governments establish legal entities
Registries record corporate information
Banks perform due diligence
Regulators determine permissions
Certification organisations establish credentials
Auditors examine evidence
Businesses create operating information
Professional advisers provide assurance
Technology platforms connect systems
Federated. Interoperable. Traceable. Accountable. Challengeable.
Who Verifies the Verifier?
Where did the evidence originate?
When was it verified?
Which rules apply?
What happened to the information?
How was a conclusion reached?
Who can access it?
How can incorrect information be challenged?
Who remains responsible?
The purpose of Trust Infrastructure is not to remove judgement. It is to give judgement better evidence.
The Shift
This is the transition towards the Trust Economy.
The UAE & the Trust Economy
The UAE sits at the intersection of international trade, capital, technology, professional services and cross-border business. Businesses from different legal systems, ownership structures and commercial cultures interact here every day — making it a highly relevant environment to explore the next generation of digital trust.
Not because the category belongs to one country, but because international commerce creates a strong need for infrastructure that carries trust across borders.
Trust is global. Its infrastructure must cross borders with it.

Founder
Ian Hamilton founded TrustEconomy.ae to explore, define and advance the idea of the Trust Economy and the infrastructure required to support it. His central thesis: as commerce becomes more digital, international and increasingly autonomous, trust itself must evolve from fragmented processes into interoperable infrastructure.
The objective is not to claim ownership of the category — it is to help define it, ask the difficult questions, connect existing areas of technology, regulation and professional assurance, develop a common language, and encourage businesses, institutions, technologists, researchers and policymakers to consider how trust should work in an AI-driven economy.
"The world does not have a shortage of information. It has a shortage of information we can prove." — Ian Hamilton
The Thesis
A category paper examining why the digital economy requires a new infrastructure layer connecting identity, ownership, authority, verification, compliance and evidence.
Verified evidence should be capable of travelling between authorised commercial relationships.
Trust should draw on authoritative sources rather than depend upon one universal database.
AI creates a new requirement to establish not merely identity, but authority to act.
The Glossary
The internet gave us infrastructure for information.
Financial networks gave us infrastructure for value.
AI is giving us infrastructure for intelligence.
The next digital era needs infrastructure for trust.
Welcome to the Trust Economy.
